this won't help much..... |
I bought this for my Dad for Christmas, but since he never uses it... I thought I'd put it through the paces a little. I can give you a few thoughts. I have an older 5 MP camera - just point and shoot for the most part.. 1. THe ink does smear easy, even if you let it dry. If you drop even the slightest bit of moisture -on the paper- forget it. 2.Photos tend to look more like a painting - especially scenic photos. Some of the colors look a little fake to me. 3. If you just stick the card in and print - it seems to crop the photo - this is really annoying in portraits etc - when you thought you had it centered well. But when you zoom a shot with the printer - it seems to reproduce the exact borders on the screen - weird. 4. HP ink and paper are not cheap - in the long run you are not saving money in the slightest over going to Costco or whatever.
Use the top HP paper or nothing - other paper I use to clean the printer. With that said - everyone at work thinks the photos are nice - like postcards. The thing cranks out the photos - reliable as far as I can see. The black and white cartridge prints are very nice. You can make any color photo a nice BW - just change out the cartidge carefully. If you like the idea of making a few prints at home or on the run - go for it. If you want to save money - go to Costco. Hope this helps - happy shooting. |

Defective out of the box |
| The printer we were sent is stuck in a loop trying to print the alignment page. I loaded the software from the CD... computer says error loading software, hardware won't work properly. Went to web site downloaded "updated software"... computer says error loading software, hardware won't work properly. Went to customer service site, told to load "updated software"... reloaded updated software, still have error message. Customer service rep says, " I think there may be a problem with the printer." There is the understatement of the day, thank you. I now have to submit my credit card so they will send me a replacement and the printer we bought to be able to take with us on vacation to print our pictures will stay home,...in a box, ...on the counter because "there may be a problem with the printer". Inconvinient customer service, defective product and a two week wait for the replacement... what more could you ask for in a printer? |
